“From the reading of ‘good books’ there comes a richness of life that can be obtained in no other way”

About the Joyspren

The word Joyspren comes from Brandon Sanderson’s Stormlight Archive. In-world, they are depicted as blue leaves that blow around a person feeling particularly joyful. Imagine the leaves in fall blowing around you as you walk down the street. Now make them blue and insubstantial, and you have the idea.

My name is Joy and I have a deep love of reading, especially in the Fantasy and Sci-fi genres. I’ve been reading in this area for more than 30 years now (yikes, I’m getting old!!) and I have found I really have a lot more to say lately than is really feasible on a social media post or goodreads review. Which is why I’m here, to talk about my favorite books, give a few recommendations, and spread the love of reading.

As a background about me: I am from Utah, but have lived for 14 years in Indiana, North Carolina, and Nebraska. I graduated from Brigham Young University in 2005 with a degree in History Teaching and I LOVE finding accurate historical tidbits and foundational myths/stories in the books I read. I have been married for 17 years, and the Joespren is a professor of Organizational Science. Together we have 4 daughters ages 7-14 that keep us really busy. They may make it onto the blog on occasion as they all love reading and have great comments on the books they read.

I identify as a Wife, Mom, Ravenclaw, Edgedancer, Blue Ajah, and occasionally Team Edward.
