Women in SF and Fantasy Part 2

Remember how earlier this month I wrote about current authors in the genres of SF and Fantasy? And I said I would bring more while it was still Women’s History month? Well, there are only a couple days left and so here we go. This is STILL not a complete list (even when paired with my previous post) because there are SO many more than I had thought there were. And so many are phenomenal and I need to read more of them. So, here is a fairly quick list without a ton of commentary because many of these I’d never heard of and I haven’t read anything from ANY of these authors! So much reading to do, I’m really excited here. Can you tell? So many books, so little time.

  1. Lois McMaster Bujold, The Physicians of Vilnoch 2021. Totally left off this queen of the SF world in my last post. But she’s got so many books/series!!

  2. Megan Whelan Turner, Return of the Thief 2020, the finale in a great series that I’m planning to start soon (I hope!). I gave the first 3 books to my daughter for Christmas and she’s barely touched them. I was trying to let her read them first, but IDK if I’m gonna be able to wait that long!

  3. Emily Tesh, Drowned Country 2020.

  4. C L Polk Soulstar: The Kingston Cycle 2020.

  5. Elizabeth Bear On Safari in R’lyeh 2020.

  6. K Arsenault Rivera The Ascendant Trilogy 2020

  7. Becky Chambers Record of a Spaceborn Few 2019.

  8. Catherynne M Valente Space Opera 2019.

  9. Charlie Jane Anders The City in the Middle of the Night 2019.

  10. Kameron Hurley The Light Brigade 2019.

  11. Sarah Pinsker A Song for a New Day 2019.

  12. R F Kuang Dragon Republic (Sequel to Poppy War, which I still need to read) 2020.

  13. Rebecca Roanhorse Black Sun 2020. A Native American author! She’s got tons of books, I haven’t even heard of her!!

  14. Silvia Moreno-Garcia Mexican Gothic 2021. I’ve heard this one especially good, I really want to try it out!

  15. Charlaine Harris The Russian Cage 2021.

  16. Genevieve Gornichec The Witches Heart 2021

  17. Sarah Gailey The Echo Wife 2020. I’ve seen this one advertised, but haven’t picked it up.

  18. R J Blain Water Viper 2021.

  19. Lauren Dane Goddess with a Blade Vol 2 2021.

  20. Amelia Hutchins Moonkissed Within the Darkness 2020.

  21. Everina Maxwell Winter’s Orbit 2020.

  22. Claire Holroyde The Effort 2020

  23. Paula Goodlett Anoria 2021.

  24. Elizabeth Knox Twisted Steel 2020.

  25. Margarita Montimore Oona Out of Order 2021

  26. Emma Newman Atlas Alone 2019.

And that my friends is the List for 2021! I will keep an eye out as I go through the next year and try to grab any new authors for this list next year, as well as update with the latest for some of the current authors (because my list from earlier this month is already a little out of date; these ladies can be quite prolific!). Once again, if you know of any female authors currently publishing in SFF that aren’t already on this list (or the previous post) please let me know so I can add them later. I fully admit to being not great at internet searches and such. And my knowledge is less than encyclopedic.
